Digital Accessibility

Breadcrumb

UCR is committed to providing an electronic environment that is accessible to everyone, including our community members with disabilities that impact interaction with digital content. This includes d/Deaf or hard of hearing people, people who experience blindness or low vision, or people with certain disabilities related to motor skills.

In addition to our campus commitments, the Department of Justice has also issued a ruling that strengthens the enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by providing clear compliance guidelines. Though the timelines vary for different aspects of federal law, UCR continues to focus on remediation and compliance for Spring 2026 (May 11, 2026).

REPORTING

To report digital accessibility issues or request remediation of inaccessible digital content, please use this online form.

Does This Apply to Me?

If you create or share information using a computer, this applies to you. The rule requires all UC Riverside digital content to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards, ensuring accessibility for all users including those with disabilities. These standards may apply to you in several ways, depending on your role or responsibilities within the University of California system.

Where Do I Start?

If you are learning about accessibility for the first time, we have created an "Accessibility for Everyone" LMS training and slide deck. We encourage all staff and faculty members take the training, no matter their role at UCR.

What Do I Need To Do?

Confirm that you’re following best practices and guidelines to maximize the accessibility of your documents and other shared materials.

Make it a habit to review the resources that apply to the type of content you’re creating — whenever you're beginning a new project, and again before you launch or distribute it.

For pre-existing content, review and update materials to improve accessibility over time, prioritizing high-use or high-impact items. Visit our Pre-Existing Content Guidelines for practical steps and recommendations to help you get started.

How Do I Learn More?

Additional digital content training is available as on-demand video courses. These trainings focus on more in-depth coverage of accessibility concepts and the WCAG guidelines. Currently, there are an array of Siteimprove Learning Path courses, collected as a curriculum, separated by audience.

UCOP has a collection of frequently asked questions intended to support faculty and staff in understanding and interpreting the proposed IT Accessibility policy (ITAP) update.
